The Power of Foundational Food at Heartstone Academy

You are what you eat. We all know this. But, sometimes the line gets blurred about what is actually good for you. In our functional medicine practice, we see a wide variety of issues, and 9 times out of 10 diet change can help. We’ve come to realize it’s not just an education though, but a deep-rooted feeling of comfort initiated in childhood. Our solution is to provide the education of what to eat, widen the palate of acceptable flavors, and program future food nostalgia to crave nourishment rather than the traditional cheap “comfort meals”. 

It’s not magic, but it is work, and it DOES work.

Every single meal we serve to our students has been crafted with wholistic principles. In case you don’t know what that means, it means we are taking into consideration the development of the child and how this food can help. It’s not only for calories, but for sugar balance, muscle growth, brain function, and digestion. To us, food completes the WHOLE picture. Because of this philosophy, our students can receive the optimal nourishment they need to THRIVE.

Here’s how we do it..

We are METICULOUS about what goes into our student's bodies, and what stays out.

Absolutely Gluten-Free: Current wheat quality is so poor and loaded with chemicals. At this point, even many organic and sourdough products still cause inflammation. Our solution is to eliminate this from the diet from the get-go. As the immune system develops, many of these children may actually be able to enjoy high quality wheat products because of this step. 

Low Dairy Usage: Most food programs opt to go heavy on the dairy to make up for lack of flavor, lack of creativity, and just plain old convenience. Not us. Dairy can be a great source of protein, but it’s over done. It also can have health implications like gut issues, autoimmune responses, skin conditions, and much more down the line. We explore A2 protein options like goat cheese when needed. But overall, dairy is used sparingly if at all.

100% Dye Free: Artificial food dyes are absolutely terrible for a developing brain, let alone a fully developed one. We believe change is on the way nationwide, but until then, we will be at the forefront of this!

We Don’t Waste Our Time with Junk: We don’t mess around with chemicals in our food. We would rather have just the food. We don’t use MSG, preservatives, vegetable oils, artificial sweeteners, flavor enhancers, or high fructose corn syrup. 

Allergen-Friendly & Custom-Made: We understand the unique needs of each child. Our meals are designed to be allergen-friendly, and can be crafted to fit the needs of the child.

Balanced diet: We don’t align with the thought that any child should be vegan. We also don’t align with the thought that any child should be on a carnivore diet. Balance is key, and that’s what we are great at.

High Quality Sources: We prioritize:
Organic Produce: Full of vital nutrients, grown without harmful pesticides.
Grass-Fed Beef: Richer in nutrients and healthier fats.
Pasture-Raised Chicken: Get out of here hormones and rubber texture!
Wild-Caught Fish: Lean protein sources packed with Omega-3s.
